Read Posting I was the corpsman on the USS LOS ALAMOS from 1974-1976. This was two of the best years I had in the Navy. Funny thing is before I ever set foot on Scotland soil two sailors in my advanced class and one instructor who all had tours on the Holy Loch told me what a terrible place it was. They could not have been more wrong. If anyone who served in the Dunoon/Sandbank area from 1974-1976 please let me know. I would love to hear from you and this could motivate me to attend tis reunion.

I just found out that 2009 has been declared as "Homecoming Scotland 2009". All kinds of events are being planned and advertised throughout Scotland. The Reunion might be a good thing to publise through them as well. The link is http://www.homecomingscotland2009.com/
I was hoping to be able to attend but my son (who lives in Glasgow) has planned his wedding for July 4th so May and August are out for me.

Title: Date of reunion
Author: Robert W. Bruneau, Olympia, WA. Added: June 5, 2008
Read Posting I agree with Melvin on the August date, BUT Dunoon hasn't changed all that much and I used to live just over the Bank on Main St. and I doubt that Dunoon could take the crowds during the games and the reunion at the same time. Who knows???
It would give the folks who would like to attend the Tattoo an opportunity to see local Highland Games and the Tattoo also. There is a lot more gong on in Scotland during August than May. If there is going to be any side tours etc. The latter part of August would seem to be better for other things. With the price of flying you need to try and get as much into each trip as possible. I used to go over every year to Inverness and I have had to curtail that temporarily (I hope).

Read Posting A great idea! I was back at Gourock about 15 years ago and could see Holy Loch across the Clyde. Brought back some pretty powerful memories. It would be great to share with my old 'mates. FOX Division.

Title: Planning

Read Posting Hi,
I am President of the John C. Calhoun SSBN 630 Veterans Association. My wife and I plan on making your next reunion along with John "Reb" Burton. We are both members of your association as well. We are trying to recruit more of our members to make the trip. I will have a better idea after our bienial reunion this July. Will everyone else be required to become members in your association as well? Also how soon do you think you will be able to firm up the dates? As soon as we get the dates our travel agent will be working up the package for us. We are planning on spending a few days in Edinburgh before making our way to Dunoon. Do we still have to change trains in Glasgow or is there a train straight through to Gourock? Looking forward to working with you. We also intend on presenting a ships plaque and framed picture from this years reunion.
